Showering Sarah

A few weeks ago, Jenny, Laura and I co-hosted a baby shower for Sarah. We held it at ArtJamN, a paint-your-own canvas studio. We were able to bring in our own food, and we had a spread of confetti rice krispie treats, lemon drop cupcakes and caramelized onion dip with veggies and chip.

We also had rainbow fruit skewers and pasta salad skewers. We wanted everything to be hand-held for easy painting. You can also see the cute invite, and the table runner, which matched.

Here's the mom-to-be as her friends began to arrive like Dana.

Jenny, one of my co-hosts.

There was some serious conversation going on here.

But Kendra was still all smiles.

Someone tell me to stop crinkling my nose when I laugh!

Before we began painting, each of us signed a note to the baby, and the instructor told us how everything was going to go.

I think Sarah enjoyed herself.

We played Rock, Paper, Scissors to see who would start the painting.

The group began with the sky.

The canvas was so large that several of us could paint at once.

We painted the sky blue all over the canvas.

The instructor had already outlined a design with a texture.

Laura and Kendra worked on the grass area.

Fun times!

All of a sudden, the painting really came together.

Dana was in charge of the red leaves.

How pretty is this?!?!

There's a heart cut into the tree, and there's a little bird on the branch.

Sarah is going to hang it in Baby's nursery. I kind of want it to hang in my house!

Here's the group in our aprons.

And one without aprons.

I think everyone really had fun, and Sarah got a one-of-a-kind piece of art out of the deal.

Spa Shower

So after my cake story, let's focus on the fun event that I made the cake in honor of. This is Nicole. She's my neighbor. She's engaged to Shawn! They are getting married in May, and I thought it would be fun to get the group of girls together for an evening of manicures, pedicures, food, drinks and cake ;) We rented the Nail Bar on the Island for the evening.

I brought in a spread of chicken pineapple skewers, veggies and a herb cheese dip, Captain Rodney's Cheese Bake with Ritz crackers and "the cake."

Here's the bride enjoying her pedicure. I also brought some rose champagne to fulfill the girlie atmosphere.

This is Amy with Nicole. Amy is also a neighbor. We are so lucky to have such awesome neighbors!

Hey, Jenny! How's that shellac treating you?

Kendra, we're so glad you brought your smiling face!

Laura came too!

We did cut into the cake...

And, I think the bride-to-be was pleased.

But, Kendra has something to say about it...No just kidding. She had something to say for sure, but not about the cake.

I think everyone had a good time, and it was a  good excuse to be pampered with the girls on a Monday night.

Nothing tops having good girl friends!

Happy Spa Shower, Nicole!

Hot Springs Update

Okay, so I've stolen some photos from Laura to document that I was on the Hot Springs trip too!

Me and my man...and my cute camera strap...and my sunburn-in-process arm

Jenny and me plotting our winning ticket.

Our side of the Duck Tour!

Waiting on the Duck Tour boat/van. Notice the sun beating down on my left arm.

Me and Hubs in front of the hot springs.

Thanks, Laura for having your camera too!

The Hot Springs

This past weekend we traveled to Hot Springs to see the ponies with a group of friends.

Unfortunately, our drive down on Friday with Jenny and Darrin was extremely long due to a tractor trailer accident that shut down a large part of I-40. We did get the pleasure of driving all the way through Biscoe, Hazen and Carlisle before we were allowed back on the Interstate.

When we finally got there, we were all ready for dinner. We walked to Central Park Fusion Cuisine, and it was tasty.

Saturday, we got up and headed here for breakfast.

We realized that Darrin and Matt matched. "Are they really the same?"

"I think they are pretty close!"

Laura wanted to be a part of the matching group, but she didn't make the cut.

After breakfast, it was time for a Duck Tour

We drove through the city and then boated around the lake.

We even went over some steep hills, and everyone was told to raise their arms like they were on a roller coaster.

But the fun didn't stop there. Next it was time to head to Oaklawn to watch the ponies race.

The Earls, plus a lady.

Now, the Earls.

"Matt, where's your lady?"

There she is!

Our first ticket was a winner!

And then there was this guy. I think his calves were cold maybe?

No socks!

We spent some time in the sun in the infield.

And, Jenny won some money!

Okay, Jenny and Darrin won some money!

And, Chris found a friend for Laura.

Unfortunately, I don't have one photo of me, but I promise I was there. And, we all had such a good time that I really didn't stop to take that many photos. It was the perfect weekend trip, and a good start to spring!
