I've been after Chris for quite some time about the sideboard in our dining room. 

I knew in my heart that it actually belonged in our bedroom. The wood and lines would go with our bed perfectly.

However, the only kind of change Chris likes is the kind in his pocket. 

The movers had put our dining room table facing into the window. In Chris' mind, the table was put in glue. Now, we couldn't turn the table without moving the sideboard. Soooo...we just lived with it.

The really good thing about the sideboard in the dining room was that it offered incredible storage and a nice place to serve or place cakes and presents.

Finally, I broke. I wanted to purchase new chairs for our dining table, and I knew the table needed to be turned to make that happen, AND the sideboard would finish out our master bedroom. 

SO, I cleaned out the sideboard. Turned out that if I reorganized my other cabinets, all of our things would fit.

With the sideboard empty, I asked Chris to move it into our bedroom. And then I left the house. Somethings are better done without me there. 

When I returned home, I asked Chris to help me move the table 180 degrees. He obliged. Then he said, "that looks better already." 

Yes, sir. Yes, it does. 

Now, we just need a small cabinet of some kind for the space on the right. And we need to rehang the mirror to be centered. And we need new chairs and really a new table. And we need some more art. 

Maybe this is why Chris isn't a fan of change?

Then Chris went out of town. So I went shopping. 

I found these two canvases for our bedroom and the box lamp. I wanted two of the lamps, but there was only one. I think it looks good, but I may hunt for a matching one. With a few more touches, our bedroom may actually be finished!

Now back to shopping. 

They're Here!

After much ado, about nothing, they are here. And we are very happy. We (I) searched and searched for bedside tables, as illustrated here and here. I had an idea that I wanted mirrored pieces; however, I don't know if I ever convinced Chris.

Yesterday we went shopping for him to look at some I had found. We bought the first ones! We were so fortunate that my grandparents had given us some spending money as a housewarming present, and we ear-marked it for bedside tables.

When we decided to buy the first ones I showed him, it happened that we were driving my car...whoops! AND, the Pier 1 we went to only had one of them. The Pier 1 about 20 miles away had another one. Whoops!

So after Chris maneuvering some boxes, removing some packaging and a few grunts, we (he) managed to get two bedsides tables into to Big V.  I did help him get them up the stairs.

And here they are! The photos are not the best because the room doesn't allow me to get far enough for a straight-on shot. But you can get the feeling. 

What's nice is that although they look shiny in this next photo, they actually have an antiqued finish so they don't look that shiny.

This is Chris' side, and yes, I promise that little bitty gold lamp is TEMPORARY. Because of course, now we needs lamps! It's never ending ;)

 

This is the view from the hallway. I think another reason the mirrored finish works is because you never really see both side tables at the same time, so it's not overwhelming.

We are very happy, and I have some place to put my glass of water, phone and magazines...and now on to the lamps!!

Porter got a little jealous I wasn't taking pictures of him, and he stretched up on my leg to say hello.

Mirror, Mirror

But not on the wall.

I'm searching for two bedside tables for our master bedroom. To review, you can see our bed here and here.

One option would be to get the tables that match our bed, but I didn't want to do that. I don't want a room full of wood. What you might not be able to tell from the photos, is that on each corner of the bed, there is a silver, metal circle, and the feet of the bed area also shiny silver. That made me start thinking.

What if I got two silver bedside tables? Okay, not really silver, but mirrored. Not crazy Vegas mirrors, but those antiqued, almost mercury glass looking tables?

So the search has begun. Chris has been patient while I shopped and looked around for a good deal, but he really likes things to be finished. So help me out! The photos below are just for inspiration. None of them are completely right, but they are somewhat along the lines of what I'm looking for.

What do you think? Know of any good deals or where I should look for something like this? I hate to order it online due to the shipping, but I would if there wasn't must assembly required, and of course, if I got a good deal ;)

I feel like I want one a little more rounded than these since our bed is rounded? What do you think?

You're Welcome America

Have you heard about the Stimulus Package? We're it. Christopher and Allison Cook will remake America's economy.

In the middle of the recession, we have both secured new jobs, moved, purchased a home, and now we're buying furniture. Yes, America, you're welcome. The increase of the GDP is due to us.

Because America is so stressed about making money, everything is on sale!

We've been so fortunate. We found a bed a Bassett that was on a huge sale. We got the bed with the upholstered headboard and the wood panel foot board. There's not a picture that shows that option so you'll have to imagine. It is the perfect blend of Chris (who wants all wood all the time) and me (who doesn't mind wood, but enjoys a lighter side). We found combining both the upholstery and wood would allow for more versatility in bedding and no worries about wearing the foot board from foot traffic, cat interest, etc.



Then we visited Macy's and purchased the mattress. They not only had a huge sale, but also paid the sales tax. Thanks Macy's!

Because mattress aren't really exciting to anyone who is not sleeping on it. Just believe us that it's wonderful, and we can't wait to enjoy it in our new home!

We've had a big day of spending money, but thankfully, no debt was actually incurred. The funny part was that at Macy's we pulled out our American Express card--to get the points--and the charge was rejected. Chris got an immediate call saying there was a potential fraud charge on our account. AMEX isn't use to us being big spenders and buying beds every day. Good to know they are looking out for us.

So America, you're welcome. Chris and I are on the forefront of growing the economy. We've probably held off the next Great Depression.

We'll take our Nobel Prize in the form of cash.
