Photography fun at the zoo

We have had some amazing weather recently, and Chris and I have made two trips to the Memphis Zoo. I've decided that the zoo is a great place to play with my camera. There are so many interesting little (and big) animal faces!

Here are a few of my favorite shots. Some of these were taken through the "glass" areas of the exhibits so the color looks off, but there were plenty of opportunities to shoot without any real barriers.

I call this Drippy Mouth, and it was shot through the glass area.

This one was shot from the outdoor observation area, and you can see the difference.

This glass didn't look this dirty or foggy, but my camera picked up on every texture in it. Either way, here is Chris really close to a bear!

Bear tongue.

Some random kid and Chris--again, really close to a bear!

I would name this one mohawk.

Doesn't he/she look like he/she is smiling!

A little more tongue.

We saw some really good bear fights too. Sometimes it looked like they just wanted to kiss, but then a fight would break out.

I like the curly-q ability of the trunk.

I'm pretty sure this Panda looked right at me and smiled.

The otters are one of my favorites!

This dude looks old.

And well-clawed.

Pretty!

Unfortunate beak issue there, but pretty.

Meerkats! Another favorite of mine. Look at those cute faces.

Some tiger tongue.

Tiger yawn!

It turned out to be a good afternoon for a nap.

Dining room wall updated

I've been updating my dining room wall, filling in some of those empty wall spaces.

This is a photo I took at our farm. Doesn't it look like some hidden secret liar?

I created this piece myself. I was inspired by a WestElm catalog that showed a similar work of "art" in one of their room scenes. I used a blue pencil and a black marker from my art box, and I traced various sizes of bowls from my cabinet.

Here's my pea pod hung on the wall.

I took this photo at our farm, and I really like the vibrant colors.

This is also from the farm, and I turned it black and white when I printed it.

So this is the updated wall. I'm pretty happy with it! You can see there's still one empty spot between the black and white road photo and the olive photo.

I'm waiting for inspiration to hit me for that one. Suggestions?

Grace is available to sign autographs

Chris and I love the magazine Garden and Gun. And they recently had a dog photography contest. Of course, we had to enter Grace!

I sent them several photos of her, and they chose one for their online gallery!

You can see her page by click here. She's under the Dogs at Play category. She didn't win, but we're proud all the same.

Vote for Me!

When I was in middle school, I ran for Student Council Secretary. My tagline: Vote for Allison because All-Is-On.

Yep, I've always been clever.

Today I'm asking you to vote for me in a photo contest on Facebook. If you're on Facebook, click on the link below and vote for my photo of the sunset.

And THANK YOU

Humming Along

 Hey, I'm a hummingbird.

I can fly and sit at the same time.

I have a pretty back too.

I have big eyes so I can what's coming like mean wasps.

I have a pretty red throat.

And, I can fly right at you!

I know these are a little blurry, but I love them. You can see their little faces (yea, they are different birds.) And, I used my tripod so I wasn't having to move the camera all around. The only problem was trying to focus on the little guys and not the feeder or the fence. But practice makes perfect, and as long as I keep my feeder full, I'm sure to get lots of practices this summer.
