10 Feet Off Of Beale

I recently entered a photo contest, and although I didn't win, it gave me an excuse to work with some of the nighttime settings on  my camera. 

I'm really happy to share some of the results. 

This shot was taken at almost dark. Amazing how much light my camera can pick up. 

These were taken from our balcony. We've had several great sunsets lately.

One in a Million

Chris and I have been attending wedding events this weekend for our friends Jenny and Darrin, and I have lots of photos to share. 

But while I'm editing them, let me hold you over with this: 

This is the hood of a car that was parked in a deck downtown with us this weekend. Chris and I had seen this car before, but I didn't have my camera. Thankfully, I was toting my camera that night, and knew I had to get a shot of this "One in a Million" car. 

You'll notice that the driver/owner of the car is sitting inside it. I walked up to the car, which was running, waved, pointed to my camera and his car, and then gave a thumbs-up sign. 

Now I'm not sure if he saw any of this because his windshield was really tinted. (I had to lighten the photo to be able to see him in it, and then I could also see the Harley Davidson seat covers.) Nevertheless, I whipped out my camera and took his photo. Well, the car's hood's photo really. It pays tribute to several dead musical performers from the past decade or so. Obviously because they are "One in a Million."

I'm not sure what he's going to do when musical entertainers he likes continue to die. Maybe move to the sides of the car? Maybe onto the windshield? 

Either way, thanks to this guy for knowingly or unknowingly allowing me to take his photo.

He's "One in a Million" to me.

Punctuation Matters

This is one of my favorite signs in Memphis so far. 

I didn't know Jesus had his specials online, but that does make things a lot easier.

Now, I wonder what the web address is?

Happy Birthday The Muddy Truth

Yesterday was my blog's official one-year birthday. That's kind of amazing, especially since this blog began when Chris and I moved away from home. 

So let's recap some highlights for nostalgia's sake.

And I was unemployed.

So we rode bikes a lot and ate fried chicken.

Then I got a job.

Next we bought a house!

And I was a criminal.

And I got older.

It snowed a lot.

And I got a new job!

Chris got older and we hung out with Norah Jones.

And we lived happily ever after!

Charitable Contributions

Chris and I have gotten a whole ton better at navigating through Memphis. We're pretty awesome at getting from our daily places to our other daily places, but once in a while we find ourselves at one new place and not quite sure how to get to another new place.

So we pull out the handy dandy iPhone or Garmin. And, it seems like we always find ourselves on an adventure.

A few weekends ago, we were traveling between some new places one afternoon, and the Garmin directed us through some neighborhoods we don't usually travel. We came to a stoplight, and there was a group of young kids, boys, all wearing red jerseys with numbers but no team name on the back, and traveling car-to-car getting money. They were putting the money in an upside-down football helmet.

Chris pulled some change out of his pocket, and handed it to one of the kids.

"There's a block party right down that street that you can go to if you want," the kid says. "They have hot dogs."

"Oh, okay thanks," Chris replied.

The kid moved on to the next car, and I busted out laughing.

"What did you just give that kid money for?" I asked.

Silence.

"I guess I don't know," Chris said, "but we can go to the block party if we want."

We both busted up laughing at this point, and continued to our original destination.

"At least they were all wearing the same jersey," I said.

"Yeah, I feel better about that," he said.

Oh Memphis, you are such a gem.
